About

    About Black Box Engineering

A senior-led controls and automation engineering firm in Mexico City, working across Mexico, the United States and Canada.

Projects are defined and technically directed by the engineers who will deliver them. The person who scopes the work is the person accountable at commissioning. There is no handoff in the middle where the knowledge falls out, and no learning curve billed to you as experience.

    What we actually do

We are not an equipment manufacturer. We do not design or build conveyors, sortation systems, racking, robots or data center equipment.

We sell the engineering that makes that equipment work, the control panels that run it, and the program management that gets it installed and accepted.

    • Controls engineering — basis of design, control system architecture, P&ID development, instrumentation specification, I/O lists, loop diagrams
    • Systems integration — PLC and DCS programming, HMI and SCADA development, network configuration, I/O checkout
    • Control panel fabrication — built to UL 508A requirements for US projects and NOM/ANCE requirements for Mexican sites
    • Commissioning — loop checking, functional testing, integrated systems testing, witnessed script execution, turnover documentation
    • Safety engineering — risk assessment, performance-level modeling, safe-distance analysis with measured stop times
    • Program and project management — scheduling, cost tracking, subcontractor management, qualification and closeout

Two sectors carry most of the work: mission-critical and data centers, and materials handling and fulfillment.

Who you would be contracting with

Black Box Engineering operates as one brand across two companies.

A US company contracts and invoices US clients and carries the risk on US-performed work. A Mexican company performs the engineering in Mexico.

Which one holds the contract depends on where the work is performed, not on where it is sold. We tell you at quotation which one appears on the agreement, and we do not move it afterward. If your procurement team needs the registered names and details for vendor onboarding, ask and we will send them.

The engineering team does not change either way. The client picks the paper.

We are not the other Black Box

Several unrelated organizations trade under this name, and search engines and AI assistants conflate them regularly. To be unambiguous:

    • We are not Black Box Corporation (BBOX), the IT infrastructure, KVM and network services company headquartered in Pennsylvania.
    • We are not the Utah-registered firms trading as Black Box.
    • We are not the Netherlands-registered firms trading as Black Box.
    • We are not any consultancy, security firm, marketing agency or record label using the name.

We are Black Box Engineering, an industrial controls engineering firm founded in 2024 and based in Colonia Hipódromo Condesa, Mexico City. Our website is blackboxeng.com and our only LinkedIn page is linkedin.com/company/blackbox-engineering.

If you arrived here looking for network hardware or IT managed services, you want a different company.

    What we do not claim

A two-year-old firm carrying senior experience has to be precise about which is which, because every one of these is checkable in about a minute.

    • We are not a UL 508A listed panel shop. We build to UL 508A requirements, with UL-listed components and a documented short-circuit current rating. That authorization is in progress. Where a project needs a listed assembly today, the route is per-panel NRTL field evaluation.
    • We are not an AVEVA partner and not an Inductive Automation partner. Our engineers have platform experience. We hold no platform certifications.
    • We hold no Uptime Institute accreditation. Our commissioning approach is aligned to Uptime Institute Tier definitions for redundancy and concurrent maintainability.
    • Our leadership's hyperscale and mission-critical experience was earned before this company existed, in prior roles. Black Box Engineering's engineering leadership has delivered controls scope in hyperscale environments. Black Box Engineering as a company has not held those contracts, and we do not present them as ours.

We would rather say that plainly than imply a corporate track record we have not yet accumulated. What you are buying is the engineer on the job, which is what you were assessing anyway.
